FIFA sanctions Football Association of Malaysia and seven players, lesson learned?
Football is number one sport for Malaysian, whatever happened at the higher management level in Malaysian football. At the grassroots level, the citizens, the fans and the new youngsters especially still have undivided passion burning in their heart to see Malaysian Football success.
Shock and sad feeling are blended together when the news appear on the main stream media regarding the FIFA sanctions Football Association of Malaysia and seven players. Today, we will summaries few key lesson learned.
1. The involved parties
We have grouped few parties as below for easy understanding when we mention them in next point:
- The Grassroots: Citizens, fans, footballers, and the new youngsters.
- The seven players: The seven players as per listed by FIFA.
- FIFA: Referring to FIFA and FIFA Disciplinary Committee.
- FAM: The management and administration of Football Association of Malaysia (FAM).
- Political Elites: Current government ministers, Prime Minister, Minister of youth and sport, and Minister of Home Affairs.
2. The hope
At the grassroots level we still has big hope for Malaysian football, so the most important thing in this article is we want to highlight that we at the grassroots level will keep going with our passion in football.
But let me throw this question to you, what do you feel when you are on the footballers, and the new youngsters foots. Have you watch them training hard for the nation? what do you feel when you are on their side seeing this issue has happened?
3. The seven players
We feels very sad to what has happened to them. As a footballer normally we just focus on our footballer activities, training, and matches. Not focusing much on administration since normally FAM will manage administrative things.
We should give moral support to them and pray for the best for them in getting through their difficulties. Honestly all Malaysian Citizens and Fans, we don't want things like this to happen. We are so sorry to all the seven players.
4. Malaysian Naturalization process
FAM has did great job in strengthen national squad in the past, the naturalization process are very detailed and smooth. We know the process are tough, in the pass, players who will play for national team will be relocate to Malaysia to play in local clubs.
Matthew Davies, Liridon Krasniqi, Brendan Gan, and Mahamadou Sumareh are few example that has gone through the long process until officially can play for Malaysia National team.
So why the seven players not go through the same process?
5. La Liga Non-EU players rule
La Liga have strict rules about how many non-EU players are allowed to play for each side, which obviously affects the way a club handles their transfer business if they are looking to coup players who do not hail from Europe.
In La Liga, each club is allowed five non-EU players, but are only allowed to name three non-EU players in each matchday squad.
How many foreign players are La Liga teams allowed?
When the seven players played for Malaysia National team, automatically they have become Malaysian and a non-EU player. In La Liga if have EU and multiple nationality it is ok if not represent for nation. But when played for national team. Their nationality will be locked with national team they have represent.
La Liga clubs will try to avoid breaking this rule since the consequences are very big for example, financial panelized, transfer ban and suspended from La Liga.
6. Governance
Things happened has highlight there is a possibility of poor governance from either the Political Elites or FAM?
There is a logic behind current Political Elites not understand the player naturalization process, football rules, non-EU rule and player registration rule. Because they don't involved in football thoroughly before this so it was not easy to understand all those rules.
For FAM to not understand this is a big question mark, since they have experienced managing this before. Or maybe since they just manage and administrative thing just as per direction from political elites?
Conclusion
1. We have been facing one of the most challenging year in Malaysian football history, but the grassroots still has a big hope for things to become better for the brighter future of Malaysian football and especially to our youngsters.
2. We pray everyone will getting through this challenge well and comeback stronger. It's important to give moral support to everyone.
3. Person who will make decision in football should be competent and has vast knowledge in local and national football rules.
4. It's important to have technical person and listening to the technical expertise related to football rules before deciding anything big.
5. The best practices from previous political elites group should be continued if it comply with good governance and bring benefits to Malaysian football.
